Anti-government protests break out in Beirut

Protesters clashed with Lebanese security forces in anti-government demonstrations in Beirut, Thursday 7-8-2020.

Tear gas was fired by the officers at several people near Parliament to disperse the demonstrations.

Protesters expressed their anger at Tuesday’s devastating blast, and officials have spoken that the blast was caused by the unsafe storage of 2,750 tons of ammonium nitrate since 2013.

Many in Lebanon said that government negligence led to the blast that killed at least 137 people and injured around 5,000 others.

The blast destroyed entire neighborhoods in the capital, and homes and businesses were reduced to rubble. Dozens of people are still missing.
